Chaitra Navratri 2026 begins on March 19 and marks the start of the Hindu New Year according to the Vikram Samvat calendar. Over nine days, devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga. This Navratri is also called Vasantik Navratri (Spring Navratri).

Significance

Chaitra Navratri celebrates the divine feminine energy (Shakti) and coincides with the beginning of the new year. It ends with Ram Navami, the birthday of Lord Rama, making it doubly auspicious.

  • Ghatasthapana – installing the sacred kalash on Day 1
  • Nine days of fasting and daily Durga puja
  • Reciting Durga Saptashati / Devi Mahatmyam
  • Kanya Puja on Ashtami – honoring young girls
  • Concluding with Ram Navami celebrations on Navami
