Chhath Puja 2025 falls on October 27 and is a four-day festival dedicated to the Sun God (Surya Dev) and Chhathi Maiya. It is predominantly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern UP, and Nepal. Devotees observe rigorous fasting and offer prayers standing in water bodies at sunrise and sunset.

Significance

Chhath Puja is one of the most ancient Hindu festivals and is the only festival where the setting sun is worshipped. It expresses gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life on earth.

Rituals & Traditions

  • Nahay Khay – holy bath and eating one meal (Day 1)
  • Kharna – 36-hour waterless fast broken with kheer (Day 2)
  • Sandhya Arghya – offering prayers to the setting sun (Day 3)
  • Usha Arghya – offering prayers to the rising sun (Day 4)
  • Preparing traditional offerings like thekua and fruits
